Worried about a Hedgehog?

If you are ever worried about the health or welfare of a hedgehog, please call the British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801 and they will be able to give you advice, and put you in touch with a local rescue centre if necessary.

Today we welcomed four new hedgehogs to Glatton.

These hedgehogs are a little special, they are the first to be released as part of a formal tagging and tracking programme that is being actively monitored, and we need the help of Glatton residents.

Our four new arrivals all have names: Rebel, Mojojojo, Eurydice and Parmesan.

The tags are not readable from a distance, but look like this:

Tag locations:

Rebel on the left-hand side towards the rear.

Rebel

Mojojojo on the left-hand side towards the rear, plus one above the left front shoulder, also has a small amount of red nail varnish on the spines at the top.

Mojojojo

Eurydice on the left-hand side towards the front.

Eurydice

Parmesan on the right-hand side, including one near the neck.

Please keep your eyes peeled for our new residents. If you see a hedgehog with yellow marker tags attached to its spines, please report the sighting to the Glatton HogBlog or by email to admin@glatton-hogblog.uk.

    When reporting, please include:

    • When and where you saw the hedgehog
    • A photo, if possible

You do not need to identify which hedgehog you’ve seen, just that it has yellow tags.

This information is extremely valuable to the hedgehog hospital and helps us understand how well the hedgehogs are settling into the village.

If you unfortunately find a hedgehog that has passed away and it has tags attached, please report this as well. The tags will show SWCC and a number, please include this number, along with the location and date found, by emailing admin@glatton-hogblog.uk.

Please also encourage neighbours and friends in the village to keep their eyes open. Every sighting helps.

Thank you for your continued support.
