Lots of activity around the feeding box, both hedgehogs showing up at various times together and separately, starting at 2215 and finally at 0357.

June 14, 2018 at 06:20If their activity at the beginning of May was successful there should be some babies hidden away somewhere as the gestation period is 37 days, around now 🙂
Apparently hedgehog reproduction is not very efficient. The female often mates several times before becoming pregnant, and quite a few females may reach the end of the season without conceiving, fingers crossed for the Green hogs.
Keep you eyes peeled in early July as the hoglets feed on their mum’s milk for the first 3 or 4 weeks. The hoglets leave their nests between about 3 and 5 weeks old to go on foraging trips with their mum, and they soon have to learn to fend for themselves; after around ten days of foraging with their mother the hoglets will wander off on their own.

June 14, 2018 at 06:12Nice to see they are staying together as a pair, we are getting visits at various times too they may or may not be the same ones, and last night we had a fox, he was never going in the box.

June 14, 2018 at 06:36My original hogs were one small and the other was much larger and that is the pattern of the hogs in my garden. They do seem to trundle off towards the Hardy household. I will keep a daily lookout to see, and hope, if they have hoglets.
