For nearly two decades, hedgehogs in Britain have been declining at the same rate as tigers worldwide.
Along with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, The Peoples Trust for Endangered Species have set up Hedgehog Street, the UK’s biggest hedgehog conservation project.
This initiative has been set up to:
- fund research to find out why rural hedgehogs are declining
- find out exactly where hedgehogs are being spotted and where gardens are being connected through our BIG Hedgehog Map
- inspire the public to make their gardens more ‘hog friendly
- look into which hedgehog houses are preferred by hedgehogs
They want Hedgehog Street to reach even more people, so that future generations still have hedgehogs regularly visiting their gardens. These spiny mammals are so loved, and yet are declining at a worrying rate. With your help they can turn this trend around and hedgehogs will thrive again in Britain.
